1812 Lounge
1812 is part of the Royal Exeter Hotel, and is named in recognition of the historical impact this building has had on the town over the past two centuries.
On the 24th of April 1812 the founder of Bournemouth, Captain Lewis Tregonwell, took up residence in his newly built mansion. It was the first house in Bourne derived from a geographical reference to the little Bourne (burna) stream, which was later to give Bournemouth its name. When the Marchioness of Exeter became the first tenant, the mansion house was renamed Exeter House and the road Exeter Road to commemorate her visit. After numerous visits by the Royal Family it acquired its present title The Royal Exeter Hotel.
As with the architecture of this historic building, 1812 mixes the important traditional elements with more contemporary themes. This flows through to the menus, offering old century established cocktails balanced with an excellent range of new century drinks. Head chef Francis Baumer describes his food as: “Classically British/French cuisine with modern twists: Fine dining in a brassiere style. Our food is full of flavour and uses as much local produce as possible. I am very proud of our achievements so far, but we are always looking to push forward and raise our standards”. To compliment the menu, new and old world wines stand shoulder to shoulder to offer customers the best possible choice.
1812 offers a friendly and relaxed environment in which to enjoy a pre and post – dinner cocktail in the bar, as well as enjoying live funky jazz music on Friday and Saturday nights. The special Sunday Jazz lunch provides a broader range of jazz styles.
